April
April
has been a fairly busy month as we prepared for a road trip to
the ASSA National Specialty in Perry, Georgia. We shared the
long ride with Rober Vézina, Diane Bigger, 7 shelties and all
the paraphernalia needed for a 1 week dog show. Needless to say
we packed every square inch of our rented van plus a roof
cargo box. The trip down on the 17th was uneventful except for
the AC in the van which quit half way there.
Luckily
for us the hotel, the show site and a garage were within walking
distance of each other. Since they were predicting high
80F temperatures all week, we knew it was important to get the
van's AC fixed at least for the dogs sake. When we took the van
to the garage that we found out there was 3 other major safety
and maintenance problems. The service guy was extremely helpful
because he contacted the rental after I has talked to them
without much success and had the necessary things fixed on the
guarantee.
Our
van troubles aside, we had a grand time at the National. It was
held at the Agricultural Center,,, a huge impressive complex of
buildings and well maintained grass fields. Plenty of room for
everyone in the grooming hall and show hall.
Although
we didn't place, our dogs preformed very well in their classes
and at this level of competition we are very pleased. We
consider the National to be an important continuing
leaning experience for us and we are grateful to see old faces
and celebrate their victories in the ring. It is also a time to
make new acquaintances and seek out breeding opportunities and
ask questions. Everyone is so helpful and friendly at this
event.
As
for southern hospitality, it is alive and well in Perry,
Georgia!
